'Intimate Distance' is the start of the 'Locus Loppem'project.
Locus Loppem
During the first half of 2005 the project Locus Loppem, organized by the Kunsthalle Lophem,v.z.w.,
will give visual arts a new ?place? in the community as ?location?. With the subtitle ?How wonderful is
the wonderful still today? the Kunsthalle shows contemporary art on historical locations and in
public space.
Starting point is the Kunsthalle where the architecture perfectly illustrates the link between contemporary
? the glass
neon lit foyer ? and historical ? an accommodated barn from 1846. The connection with
the outside world is a yellow pedestrian crossing
that safely sneaks the visitor into the wonderful world of installations, video, film and photography ? or perhaps questions the granted
safety.
Castles are mostly associated with romanticized life styles and expectations that are created by our
(fairy-like) imagination.
The project wants to add a new dimension to this ?imagination? by an accurate
and specific way of showing visual art in about
three castles in Loppem. Alienating and self-willed
photography and video art will create an interaction with the mostly cold and
desolate architecture of
these monuments.
Fom January 15 Gasthof Heidelberg is the place to be for an international (jazz) program
and several
(video) installations. In this building, listed as historic monument, the project gets a more intimate
character,
auditory as well as visually, but it won?t be less confronting.
All (historical) locations as such are connected by the public space
in between the farthest places,
i.e.Kasteel ter Loo and Kasteel van Caloen. Projects may be expected on the most different places;
on the street scene, on the fa?des of houses, the library and even the church tower. Between 6 p.m.
and 22 p.m. film and video are
shown in the vicinity of several catering places or just along the route.
Moreover, Loppem also gets the biggest Still Life in art
history and so in the future it will be impossible to imagine the international map without the village ?
